Often, when making a list of your favorite/best burger places, you add some that you have visited a handful of times, or in a location outside of your normal dinnertime travel area, or only accessible when you are on the road. All of these are acceptable, and often make you appreciate the burger there even more.
I had the good fortune of having one of my all time favorite burgers 10 minutes from where I used to work. And because of its proximity, I have had the extreme pleasure of dining there 1000+ times. I have also lost county of the number of people I have taken with me to dine on one of the best burgers I know.
Dairy Delite is the small town mainstay that many of us have enjoyed. It is that place that EVERYONE goes to from time to time, and have done so for generations. On the way up to Estes Park from Loveland on US Hwy 34, Dairy Delite is also a "must visit" for those going to and coming down from visiting Rocky Mountain National Park.
On a warm summer evening, you will likely have problems even getting into the parking lot of this place - the lines are out the doors for people looking to beat the heat with a ice cream treat. Authentic Chicago dogs (Vienna Beef) and Italian Beef sandwiches are also world class.
The burger is as close to perfection as you can get - a hand packed ground beef patty, flamed boiled, served with melted cheese on a toasted kaiser roll. Everything is cooked to order - so it comes out hot and juicy. The double cheeseburger is that perfect combination of bun and burger - exactly the right ratio and taste.
The service is also in a league of it's own. I mentioned earlier the crowd that descend on the place - handled with ease. There is never a significant wait, even when the food is being cooked to order. The Dairy Delite team ALWAYS makes certain that you are satisfied and taken care of.
Mike, Pat and Christie (owners and their daughter) have run Dairy Delite for 40 years. Their dedication to their customers and community are obvious in everything that Dairy Delite stands for. You will never find more engaged restaurant owners, and the quality of their establishment - from the staff to the food - reflects this.
Sadly, I changed jobs a few years ago, and no longer get to frequent Dairy Delite as much as I once did (or would prefer). It makes my trips up to visit just that much more special. And it is SOOOOOOO worth it.
This burger is one of my personal Top 10,
and I cannot recommend it enough.
