Burger Review - McDonald's Fresh Quarter Pound Beef...

Review:

I have been asked by numerous people what my opinion is about the new "fresh" beef at McDonald's. So I thought it would make sense to write a quick review.

First, it is McDonald's - somewhere we have all likely been a hundred (or more) times. One of the best qualities about McD's is that regardless what you think of the quality, you will get pretty much the same experience (more or less) no matter where you go. There is a certain comfort in this, especially if you are in a rush or just looking for something inexpensive and simple.

I know - the "reality" picture is never as appealing...
Let me also add: there are many that criticize the quality of McDonald's food - certainly that is there right. But you will be VERY hard pressed to find a company that offers more consistent and quality ingredients. Their prep - when made fresh - is nearly always good. And specifically, the quality of the beef is quite good.

I never had much of an issue with the frozen patties - I have always asked for my burgers to be special cooked (as in not in the warmer, etc), so they were always hot and tasty. But I know that those coming out of the pre-made warmer were not always the best.

Yep - this is what fresh looks like.
The fresh beef is cooked at the time the order is placed, so there is about a 2-3 minute wait. It is worth it.  The result is a hot, juicy and tasty burger, and the patty itself has a more meaty, sirloin flavor to it.

I suspect that McDonald's had to change their process and beef supplier (their restaurant logistics is amazing) to make this all work. But the ever changing appetite of the 18-30 crowd demanded that they do something different. And this was a positive step.

Please don't misunderstand me: McDonald's will never compete with the traditional pub or specialty burgers out there. Nor do I expect them to. But the latest change seems to be a decent one, and worth giving a shot.
